BOOKING INFORMATION   FOR HIGH BARN

Booking: booking requests are best made by phone on 44 (0) 20 7720 6730 (answerphone if we are not around). Alternatively, please use the  booking form, where you must give us your phone number. We do not have fax. If the period of your holiday is not already booked, we will hold your booking for seven days. In this time, we will ask you to make your deposit payment.

Deposit payment: we will ask you for a deposit of 50% of the price to secure your booking.

Final payment: the remaining 50% is due 4 weeks before the start of your holiday. We will send you a reminder in plenty of time. On receipt of payment, we will send you full instructions for travelling and access to High Barn. If your payment is not received by the due date we reserve the right to re-let the property and the deposit payment will be forfeited.

Cancellation: we strongly suggest you take out holiday cancellation insurance (let us know if you need insurance company contacts) because we cannot refund any payments you have made.

Arrival: your booking for High Barn will start on a Friday at 3pm. Please note that you must not arrive before this time as cleaning, lawn-mowing etc may be in progress. If you want your holiday to start earlier, we suggest you drive straight past High Barn to Wonwell Beach a mile beyond, or lunch in the Dolphin in Kingston, and come back to High Barn later.

First Meal: please be aware that we do not provide the ingredients for a meal on your arrival. Neither Torr nor Kingston have a shop. You should either make your first acquaintance with the Dolphin pub in Kingston, stop in Modbury, or bring milk, etc yourself

Departure: you should leave by 10 am on your day of departure. We expect you to take responsible care of our home. Please make sure that everything you have used is returned to its proper place, and High Barn is left clean and tidy and how you found it.

Linen: the price includes bed linen. However, you need to bring bath and beach towels. You also need to bring a sheet for the cot if you expect to use that.

Heating: the house has oil-fired central heating. This runs all of the radiators, except for the radiator in the main bedroom which is heated by the Aga, also oil-fired.  Please be environmentally sensitive; use the central heating sparingly.

Electricity: this is not separately charged or metered. Please would you turn lights etc off as you would in your own house.

Telephone: please bring your mobile phone; reception is not brilliant but acceptable.

Wifi: we provide Wifi; access codes are in the front of the book which tells you how all the equipment in the house works.

Pets: one pet is welcome at £20 per week (or shorter stay) by prior arrangement only, but it is vital that it does not stray onto the farm. There are free-range chickens, sheep and other animals on the farm, and you cannot expect the farmer to be tolerant if a dog attacks his animals. Please clean up in the garden behind your dog.

Number of people: you must not have more than 8 people sleeping at High Barn (plus a baby). If you want more, do not be put off - we may well be able to arrange for some of you to sleep at other properties very close by.  We reserve the right to refuse bookings.

People with reduced mobility: we are sorry that High Barn is not suitable for wheelchairs. You should be aware that all bedrooms are on the first floor, and that the garden is on three different levels. Arrangements can be made with the next door neighbour to avoid the steps up into the property, if we know beforehand. But we are very keen that older people, for instance grandparents on a family holiday,  should be able to enjoy High Barn and the area, so please do discuss your requirements with us.

Risk: the use of High Barn is at your risk, including personal accident, injury, and loss or damage to whatever you bring with you.

Damage: breakages do occur on holiday. The important thing is that you let us know, so that we can replace.  Minor breakages will not be charged, but all breakages and damage are your responsibility, and the cost must be paid on demand.

Problems or complaints: you should try to get hold of us first if something goes wrong with the house. We will provide you with a telephone number of a caretaker for use only if we are unavailable. Please do let us know; we cannot do anything if we do not know about it. We want your stay to be a very happy one, not to find out after you have left that you were unhappy.

No formal contract: we believe that the points covered above should be sufficient for you to have an enjoyable stay, which is the whole point of the exercise.
